A Knockout for a Great Cause: Inside Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini’s 2nd Annual Fight Night

There is a specific kind of electricity that takes over the Mahoning Valley on a fight night. But when the gloves are laced up to support the men and women who protect our community, the energy in the room hits a completely different level.

On Friday, January 23rd, Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center in Boardman transformed into the epicenter of the boxing world for the 2nd Annual Fight Night, hosted by Youngstown’s own boxing legend, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini. Following the massive success of last year’s event honoring veterans, this year’s spotlight turned to another underappreciated sector of our society: our local first responders.

Through the Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini Foundation, the night was dedicated to raising vital funds to support the physical and mental well-being of police officers, firefighters, and EMTs, including support for a spectacular first responder wellness center right here in Boardman.

The evening kicked off with a seated dinner, but the real anticipation was for what was waiting under the lights. By 9:00 PM, the Pro Fight Show was in full swing, featuring an action-packed card and special appearances by former World Boxing Champions who came out to show their support.

However, the undeniable crowd favorites of the night were the “Battle of the Badge” bouts. Trading their uniforms for boxing trunks, local firefighters squared off against police officers, stepping into the ring to put it all on the line for a great cause. It was a perfect showcase of community, grit, and the fighting spirit that defines this area.

We were there to capture the action as it happened. Check out the full gallery of the night’s best moments below!
